The Plane of Eldraine

Throne of Eldraine introduces Eldraine, a plane in Magic: The Gathering inspired by European fairy tales and Arthurian legend. The realm consists of five knightly courts—Ardenvale (white), Vantress (blue), Locthwain (black), Embereth (red), and Garenbrig (green)—each dedicated to a core virtue and ruled by a monarch. Beyond the courts lie the Wilds, home to magical creatures, faeries, giants, and other beings outside the civilized hierarchy. The plane blends medieval castles, chivalric knights, and enchanted forests with classic storybook elements.

The Conflict on Eldraine

In the story of Throne of Eldraine, planeswalker Oko arrives on the plane and, along with Garruk Wildspeaker, kidnaps High King Algenus Kenrith. This act disrupts the balance between the five courts and the Wilds. The king’s children, the twins Rowan and Will Kenrith, embark on a quest to rescue their father. Their journey takes them through the courts and into the Wilds, culminating in the restoration of the king, the freeing of Garruk from his curse, and the ignition of the twins’ planeswalker sparks.

The Mechanical and Flavor Identity of Throne of Eldraine

Throne of Eldraine captures fairy-tale storytelling and chivalric adventure in Magic: The Gathering. It introduces the Adventure mechanic, allowing creatures to be cast as instant or sorcery spells first. Other features include Adamant, which rewards committing to a color, Food tokens for life gain and other effects, and returning Knights tribal support.
