Cards to Grab Before Reality Fracture Spikes Them

With that out of the way, here's the setup. Reality Fracture releases October 2, and the Echoverse premise. The Lorwyn 5 facing warped mirror versions of themselves means the set is stuffed with planeswalkers. Ajani, Chandra, and Garruk have each been spoiled twice, and Jace anchors the whole story. Every time Wizards ships a planeswalker-dense set, the same handful of Commander support cards wakes up, because thousands of players simultaneously decide it's finally time to build superfriends. The demand event is on the calendar. The question is just whether you buy before it or after.

We ran this exact play before The Hobbit hit, and the logic hasn't changed: buy the cards the new set makes people want, not the new set itself.

The Chain Veil is my top pick, and supply is the whole argument. It has been printed exactly once in Magic 2015 and sits around $6-12 depending on where you shop. It's the engine card of every dedicated superfriends deck: pay and tap it, and each planeswalker you control gets a second loyalty activation that turn.

A mythic with one printing from 2014 doesn't need much new demand to move. When a wave of players builds around the new Ajanis and Garruks and goes looking for the deck's namesake engine, there simply aren't that many copies sitting in binders. This is the cleanest supply-and-demand shape on the list.

Two cards do Chain Veil impressions for pocket change, and both are the kind of pickup where the downside is literally lunch money.

Oath of Teferi is under a dollar with a single printing (Dominaria, 2018), and it grants every one of your planeswalkers an extra loyalty activation each turn, no mana and no tapping. Bulk rares with one printing and an obvious home are how you end up feeling smart six months later.

Deepglow Skate runs about fifty cents and doubles the counters on any number of permanents when it enters which, pointed at planeswalkers, routinely turns a fresh walker into an immediate ultimate. It has several printings, so the ceiling is lower, but the floor is the floor of a couch cushion.

Here's the pick I haven't seen anyone else connect. Both spoiled Garruks, Garruk, Veiled Butcher in black and Garruk, Curse Breaker in green both land squarely inside Golgari, and Carth the Lion is the Golgari superfriends commander. He digs seven cards for a planeswalker whenever he enters or one of your walkers dies, and every loyalty ability you activate gets an extra {+1}. He costs about fifty cents right now. If Garruk-mirror-match superfriends becomes a deck people build in October (which the flavor is practically demanding), Carth is the commander they all search for at once.

Doubling Season is the traditional pre-planeswalker-set buy. Your walkers enter with double loyalty, usually within range of an instant ultimate. It'll see demand. But I have to be honest about the other side: it's been reprinted repeatedly, including in Foundations in 2024, and the cheapest printings sit around $34-42 with deep supply. The days of it doubling overnight ended when the reprints started. Buy it if your decks want it, run your list through our Combo Finder and you'll probably find it enables more than you think. Ultimately you should buy it as a player, not a speculator.

Grab the singles your decks actually want before preview season peaks in September, because the spike window is the two weeks before release, not after.
