Twelve new scene cards, forty box-topper reprints, and nothing under this code is Standard-legal. This is the eternal companion to the main Hobbit set, released alongside it on August 14, 2026, and every card here is legal only in Commander, Legacy, and Vintage. It is not a Commander precon set, because there were no precons. It is the sheet where the collector treatments and the format-only cards were printed.

Twelve Scene Cards Are the Only New Cards

The mechanically new cards number exactly twelve, six per Scene Box, and each box's six assemble into one borderless panorama. Crack the Plates covers the dinner party: Thorin, King of Durin's Folk, Gandalf, Party Guest, Fíli and Kíli, Joyous, Ori, Plate Stacker, Bag End Banquet, and Bilbo, Fellow Conspirator, whose signature trick is turning every Food you would make into a Food plus a Treasure. Treasures of Smaug covers the hoard: Smaug the Impenetrable, Dragon-Cursed Halls, Bilbo's Burglaring, Dragon's Desire, Long-Lost Lances, and Necklace of Girion.

Each Scene Box also holds three Play Boosters, six art-only versions of the scene, and an easel. The playable copies are traditional foil.

Forty Box Toppers From Tales of Middle-earth

The larger chunk of the set is the Middle-earth Classic Artist series: forty borderless reprints from Tales of Middle-earth with new art by long-serving Magic illustrators. One traditional foil box topper comes with every Play Booster box and every Collector Booster box, and surge foil versions of all forty appear only in Collector Boosters.

The pool is where the money is. The One Ring, Orcish Bowmasters, Delighted Halfling, and Mithril Coat are the cross-format staples; Sauron, the Dark Lord, Tom Bombadil, and Saruman of Many Colors are the Commander headliners; and Galadriel's Dismissal is the one that surprised people, because a premium-only printing of a top-tier white protection spell was always going to be scarce.

Everything Else Under the HOC Code

Three smaller groups round it out: five Collector Booster cards rendered in Dwarvish script, the Welcome Deck reprints, and a set of extended-art cards reserved for the Battle of the Five Armies Co-op Kit, a cooperative product that arrives separately in 2027.

Where These Cards Live in Commander

The scene cards are the reason a Commander player opens this page. Bilbo's Food-into-Treasure conversion is a real engine in any Food deck, and the hoard-side cards give Smaug decks a second commander option that never has to worry about Standard rotation.
