Giada, Font of Hope Commander Deck: A Bracket 3 Angel Flock

Deck Tech Commander
Giada, Font of Hope
Giada, Font of Hope · Art by Kai Carpenter

Giada, Font of Hope is a two-mana Angel with one job: make every Angel after her bigger than the last. Each other Angel enters with an extra +1/+1 counter for every Angel you already control, so your fourth Angel lands with three counters and your sixth with five.

This Giada, Font of Hope commander deck is our bracket 3 build: a mono-white Angel flock with real removal, a lifegain engine that turns into card draw, and enough protection to survive the wrath you will eventually eat.

The deck

The list lives on our house account as Giada, Font of Hope Bracket 3. We ran it through our own bracket audit, which puts it at bracket 3: no two-card combos, nothing illegal, and three Game Changers. Enlightened Tutor, Smothering Tithe and Teferi's Protection. Cut those three if your pod plays at bracket 2.

How it plays

The early turns: make Angels cheap

Giada taps for {W} that can only cast Angels, so she is a mana dork for exactly the spells you want. The standard line is Giada on turn two, then Starnheim Aspirant (Angel spells cost {2} less) or Urza's Incubator (the chosen type costs {2} less) on turn three. On turn four, a five-drop Angel costs three, and Giada's {W} helps pay for it. Open on Sol Ring and the five-drop comes a turn early. Herald's Horn, Oketra's Monument and Pearl Medallion stack on top, and Arcane Signet fills in the rest of the ramp.

In mono-white you usually fall behind on lands, and two cards make that work for you. Land Tax puts up to three basics into your hand each upkeep while an opponent has more lands than you. Archaeomancer's Map finds two Plains when it enters, then puts lands from your hand onto the battlefield whenever an opponent's land drop pulls them ahead. Together they keep your land drops coming.

The midgame: the counters snowball

Giada counts Angels you already control, so order matters. Lead with the cheap bodies: Inspiring Overseer, Lyra, Archangel of Dawn, Righteous Valkyrie. Save the payoffs for when they arrive with three or four counters. Herald of War is the sleeper: it enters with Giada's counters already on it, so its discount on Angel and Human spells is live the turn it lands, and it grows again every time it attacks.

Lyra, Archangel of Dawn
Archangel of Thune
Exemplar of Light

The lifegain package turns a pile of big flyers into a deck that draws cards. Archangel of Thune puts a +1/+1 counter on each creature you control whenever you gain life, and Lyra, Archangel of Dawn does the same for each Angel. Exemplar of Light draws a card the first time each turn it gets counters, and with Giada out, that includes the counters it enters with. Righteous Valkyrie gains you life equal to each new Angel's toughness, and with Giada, that toughness keeps climbing.

Bishop of Wings gains you 4 life per Angel, which is exactly enough for Valkyrie Harbinger and Angelic Accord to make a 4/4 at end of turn. Resplendent Angel wants 5, so pair the Bishop with Seraph Sanctuary's extra point, a second Angel that turn, or lifelink damage from Lyra Dawnbringer.

Card draw that isn't lifegain

Folk Hero gives Giada this ability: "Whenever you cast a spell that shares a creature type with this creature, draw a card. This ability triggers only once each turn." That's every Angel. Vanquisher's Banner draws on every Angel you cast too. Firemane Commando and Minas Tirith pay you for attacking with two or more creatures, which this deck does every turn.

What we changed, and why

Most Giada lists look alike. Ours started from the usual build and traded its weakest slots for interaction:

Protection, and the trap in the list

Your board is the whole plan, so the deck carries Teferi's Protection, Flawless Maneuver (free while Giada is out), Akroma's Will, Flare of Fortitude and Avacyn, Angel of Hope to keep it alive through a wrath.

One interaction to know before you sit down: Angel of Jubilation stops players from paying life or sacrificing creatures to cast spells or activate abilities, and that includes you. While it's out, Flare of Fortitude's free mode is off (pay {2}{W}{W}), and War Room can't draw, because its cost includes life. Hold the mana when Jubilation is on the table.

Play it, then prove it

Copy the list into your own builder from the decklist above, make your own swaps, and run it through the bracket calculator to see where your version lands. Then record your games: every result moves the deck's rating immediately, so after a few nights you will know whether the flock actually wins in your pod. Player ELO and deck ELO are tracked separately, so the deck gets credit even when you're borrowing it.
