Kwia Vigorbloom EDH Deck Guide: Bracket 2, 3 and 4 Builds
All three of our Kwia Vigorbloom decks are the same Selesnya lifegain shell. What changes as the bracket goes up is not the shell but how the deck ends the game: the Bracket 2 list wins by gaining a lot of life and turning it into a board, the Bracket 3 list adds Emiel the Blessed and a loop that gains infinite life, and the Bracket 4 list adds the tutors that find that loop on demand.
What Kwia Vigorbloom Actually Does at a Four-Player Table
Kwia costs for a 6/6 Elder Sphinx with flying, vigilance, lifelink and ward
. The text under the keywords is the whole reason to build the deck:
Whenever you gain life, create a colorless artifact token named Lotus with ", Sacrifice this token: Add three mana of any one color." This ability triggers only once each turn.
Read that clause carefully, because most of the early takes got it wrong in both directions. The Lotus is three mana of one colour, not any mix, and you get at most one per turn. But "each turn" means every turn, including your opponents'. That is where a lifegain shell pays off at a four-player table: a Soul Warden gains you a life whenever any creature enters, so when an opponent casts a creature on their turn, Kwia makes a Lotus on their turn too. Against three opponents who each play a creature, that is four Lotuses per round, not one.
That is why every one of these lists runs the full set of "soul sister" creatures plus Prosperous Innkeeper and Guide of Souls. On paper they are one-mana 1/1s that gain a life. With Kwia out, each of them is a mana rock that fires on everyone's turn.
The other half of the shell is lifegain payoffs that are good without Kwia: Archangel of Thune grows the whole board every time you gain, Lathiel, the Bounteous Dawn hands out counters at end step, Well of Lost Dreams turns life into cards, Heliod, Sun-Crowned turns it into counters, and Aetherflux Reservoir and Storm Herd turn a big life total into a win. Around 70 of the 100 cards are shared by all three lists, so pick a bracket and you are still playing the same deck most of the time.
Kwia Vigorbloom Bracket 2: The Fair Lifegain Deck
The Bracket 2 list is the one to start with, and it is defined as much by what it leaves out as what it runs. No Emiel. No token doublers. No tutors beyond the ones a precon would run. The ramp is green's honest stuff. Llanowar Elves, Elvish Mystic, Avacyn's Pilgrim, Rampant Growth, Cultivate, Kodama's Reach, plus Sol Ring and Arcane Signet.

The full list lives on its deck page. How it wins is the interesting part. You gain life every turn through the sisters, Trelasarra, Moon Dancer and Ajani's Welcome grow a creature every time, and Kwia's own lifelink attack is a steady three mana a turn that most tables will not remove through ward . From there the deck has three closers:
- Felidar Sovereign Hit 40 life and survive one untap, which a four-player table has to actively stop.
- Storm Herd A 1/1 flier for every point of life you have, which with Archangel of Thune still on the table becomes lethal the next time you gain.
- Finale of Devastation with X at 10 or more, The Lotus tokens are what make twelve mana reachable in a fair deck.
None of that is a combo in the bracket-rules sense. The deck wins over several turns, telegraphs what it is doing, and loses to a well-timed board wipe. That is the point. If your pod plays at precon-and-a-bit power, this is the Kwia list that will not get you a Rule 0 conversation.
Kwia Vigorbloom Bracket 3: Emiel Arrives
Nineteen cards change between the Bracket 2 and Bracket 3 lists, and one of them is the whole story. Emiel the Blessed can pay to exile another creature you control and return it. Kwia comes back as a new object, which means its "once each turn" clause starts over. With any soul sister on the table, that is a loop:
- Pay
to Emiel: exile Kwia, return it.
- Kwia enters, Soul Warden triggers, you gain 1 life.
- The new Kwia has not triggered this turn, so you make a Lotus.
- Sacrifice the Lotus for three mana. Go back to step 1.
The loop is mana-neutral and gains a life per iteration, forever. Aetherflux Reservoir turns that into 50 damage at each opponent. Archangel of Thune turns it into a board of arbitrarily large creatures. Well of Lost Dreams draws the deck along the way. It is a three-card combo: Kwia, Emiel and any one of the sisters, so the bracket rules do not flag it as a two-card win, but it ends the game on the spot, and you should say so before the first shuffle at a Bracket 3 table.

The other eighteen swaps make the fair plan faster. The Bracket 3 list on its deck page brings in the token doublers. Doubling Season, Parallel Lives, Anointed Procession and Mondrak, Glory Dominus (which multiply Lotuses, Ocelot Pride cats and Storm Herd Pegasi alike), and Craterhoof Behemoth to turn a wide board into a kill. Eladamri's Call is the first tutor, and it finds Emiel. Serra Ascendant is a one-mana 6/6 flier in a deck that passes 30 life early. The protection suite grows too: Flawless Maneuver joins Heroic Intervention, and Teferi's Protection is the list's one Game Changer, leaving two of the three Bracket 3 slots unused.
The mana base tightens in step. Out go Radiant Fountain, Sungrass Prairie and two basics; in come Boseiju, Who Endures, Yavimaya, Cradle of Growth, Branchloft Pathway // Boulderloft Pathway, Exotic Orchard and Reliquary Tower, the last of which matters once Well of Lost Dreams starts drawing twenty.
Kwia Vigorbloom Bracket 4: Tutors and a Second Combo
Fifteen more swaps take the list to Bracket 4, and they are the swaps you would expect: the deck stops hoping to draw the combo and starts searching for it. Enlightened Tutor finds Aetherflux Reservoir or Heliod, Sun-Crowned. Worldly Tutor finds Emiel or a sister. Eladamri's Call stays. Between them, the Bracket 4 list can assemble the Emiel loop from a hand that has none of it.

It also gets a second, more compact kill. Walking Ballista is the one card in the Bracket 4 list that neither other build runs, and with Heliod it is a classic two-card combo: give Ballista lifelink with Heliod's ability, remove a counter to ping, gain a life, Heliod puts the counter back, repeat for as much damage as you want. Kwia is not even required, which is exactly why the list on its deck page belongs at a table that has agreed to that kind of game.
The rest of the upgrades are staples with a job. Smothering Tithe and The One Ring are the card-and-mana engines, Archivist of Oghma punishes the tutors your opponents will be casting back at you, Aura Shards turns every creature entering, which in this deck is constant, into removal, and Akroma's Will is both the alpha-strike enabler and the wipe insurance. The mana base adds Ancient Tomb, Savannah, Wooded Bastion and Talisman of Unity and drops to sixteen basics. By my count that list carries seven Game Changers: the two tutors, Tithe, The One Ring, Teferi's Protection, Ancient Tomb and Aura Shards, which is well past the four that place a deck at Bracket 4 on its own.
Two swaps cut the other way. Craterhoof Behemoth leaves, because a deck with infinite life and Ballista does not need an eight-mana finisher, and Felidar Sovereign comes back from the Bracket 2 list, because a Bracket 4 table is more likely than a Bracket 3 one to let a 40-life upkeep trigger slip through while it is answering the real threats.
Which Kwia Vigorbloom Build Should You Play?
The honest comparison is about how the deck closes, not how strong the engine is. The engine is the same in all three.
- Bracket 2 list - no Emiel, no doublers, no tutors. Wins over several turns through Felidar Sovereign, Storm Herd or a big Finale. Bring it to a precon table.
- Bracket 3 list - adds Emiel the Blessed, four token doublers, Craterhoof, Eladamri's Call and Teferi's Protection. Can win on the spot through the Emiel loop, but has to draw into it. Bring it to an upgraded table and name the loop in the pre-game talk.
- Bracket 4 list - adds Enlightened Tutor, Worldly Tutor, Heliod plus Walking Ballista, Smothering Tithe and The One Ring. Finds a combo most games. Bring it to a table that has asked for optimized decks.
If you are building your own version, the cut line is Emiel. Everything else on the way up: doublers, tutors, and premium lands makes the deck faster and smoother. Emiel is the single card that makes it a combo deck, so decide whether you want that first and build around the answer. Reality Fracture's combo page credits Kwia with more combos than any other new commander in the set (Commander Spellbook counts 96), and most of them are variations on that same blink loop; the full Reality Fracture combo list has every one of them with a deck-fit check.
We ranked Kwia at the top of our best new Reality Fracture commanders on the strength of that opponents'-turn Lotus, and these three lists are what we meant. If planeswalkers are more your speed, the Jace, Multiverse Architect three-build guide covers the set's other command-zone option the same way, and the Reality Fracture set page has every card from the set with current prices.
Whichever list you pick, run it through the bracket calculator before you sit down. It names the exact cards responsible for the bracket, which is a better pre-game conversation than "it's about a 3", and then record the games so the next version of this post can tell you which build actually wins.
