Advanced Card Search: Colors, Mana Value, Format, Price
The advanced card search is a form at nerdleagues.com/cards/advanced that builds a filtered query without you learning any syntax. It is open to everyone — no account, no sign-in — and it submits to the same results page the search bar uses.
Text fields
- Card name — matches names.
- Rules text — searches the oracle text, so draw a card finds every card that says it. All the words you type have to appear.
- Type line — creature wizard matches the whole type line, so you can combine a type and a subtype in one box.
Colors and color identity
Two separate pip rows, W/U/B/R/G plus colorless, and they answer different questions.
Colors of the card takes a mode: At least matches anything containing the colors you picked, Exactly matches that combination and no other, and At most matches cards that stay within it.
Color identity is the Commander question: what fits in a deck under that identity. Colorless cards always qualify. Pick your commander's colors here to see everything legal in the deck.
Numbers
Mana cost takes a literal cost such as {1}{W}{U}. Mana value, Power, Toughness, Loyalty, and Price USD all take a comparator:
- 3 — exactly three.
- >=4 — four or more. <=2, >1 and <6 work the same way.
Power and toughness printed as * or X have no number to compare, so those cards drop out of a power or toughness filter rather than sorting to one end.
Legality, rarity, and sets
Format plus Status in format is the pairing worth knowing. Status is Legal, Banned, or Restricted — so picking Legacy and Banned gives you the Legacy ban list as a browsable page of cards.
Rarity filters to one rarity. Set code takes a comma-separated list such as mh3,lci to search across several sets at once.
Sorting and extras
Sort by offers Name, Mana Value, Price (USD), Rarity, or Set, ascending or descending. Results come back 60 to a page as one row per card rather than one per printing, so a card reprinted eleven times appears once.
Include tokens, emblems, and Alchemy rebalanced cards is off by default and adds them back when you need them.
Search with a set of filters that matches exactly one card and you land on that card's page instead of a one-result list.
Sharing a search
Every filter is in the URL, and the form fills itself back in from it. A search you have built is a link you can bookmark or paste to someone, and reopening the advanced form from that link brings back every field you set. Reset clears the lot.
